Following the success of its flagship hospitality development Dusit Thani Lubi Plantation Resort and dusitD2 in the Davao Region, Torre Lorenzo Development Corporation (TLDC) now brings two hospitality developments in Metro Manila in partnership with The Ascott Limited (Ascott). TLDC recently completed and simultaneously opened The Suites and lyf Malate Manila located at Torre Lorenzo Malate (TLM) in Malvar corner Vasquez Street in Manila.
Three distinct living experiences
As the first lyf property in the Philippines, lyf Malate Manila showcases a unique co-living experience aimed at new-generation social travelers. The Suites, on the other hand, offers a luxurious and comfortable experience for travelers’ long stays and a unique investment opportunity to own an Ascott-managed serviced residence.
Both are located in Torre Lorenzo Malate, the first vertical mixed-use development of TLDC. Aside from The Suites at TLM and lyf Malate Manila, the property also houses The Residences, Torre Lorenzo’s signature premium residential units. TLM is located at the heart of the beautiful capital city, within walking distance from top universities, hospitals, retail centers, cultural and sports locations, and iconic tourist destinations.
New experiences, new adventures
The simultaneous opening of both The Suites at TLM and lyf Malate Manila is the latest venture of TLDC into the hospitality industry, strengthening its pursuits in the sector.
People dressed in Y2K-inspired outfits filled the vibrant and colorful halls of Torre Lorenzo Malate following a ribbon-cutting ceremony with TLDC Chief Operations Officer Cathy Casares-Ko, Ascott’s Country General Manager Philip Barnes, lyf Malate Manila POP Champion and The Suites at TLM Residence Manager Joyce Pascual-Agsaway, Manila City Mayor Honey Lacuna-Pangan, Department of Tourism (DOT) Supervising Tourism Operations Officer Ivannovich Agote, and Singapore Ambassador to the Philippines Her Excellency Constance See Sin Yuan.
lyf is a unique coliving concept that allows digital nomads, technopreneurs, creatives and self-starters to “live your freedom” in a dynamic environment for living, work, and play. With curated experiences and social programs, lyf is also designed for residents to plug into the local community and form connections with one another.
Currently, lyf’s shared spaces include the Connect Study Pods for those wanting private time, the Wash and Hang area where travelers can socialize in a ball pit while waiting for their laundry, the Burn gym for fitness buffs, a coffee kiosk for those who need their daily caffeine fix, and the Collab & Meet areas for group discussions or social gatherings.
The Suites, meanwhile, brings the Old Manila charm back to Malate through its serviced residences with the hospitality of a hotel and the warmth of home. Walking into the lobby gives the feeling of entering into a grand Malate mansion from decades ago brought to today. Designed by award-winning interior design studio by Ivy and Cynthia Almario, the gorgeous interior evokes the nostalgia, romance, charm, and beauty of Old Manila in the modern age. Both the design and style of the spaces were created with both younger and older generations in mind - hip yet nostalgic, traditional yet contemporary.
Following the tours, guests were led to TLM’s Sky Lounge, where they were greeted by a breathtaking panorama of the sprawling cities of the capital and the vast beauty of Manila Bay which extended beyond the horizon. As the sunset dipped below the horizon, the guests gathered for a celebratory dinner to commemorate the opening of both properties.
Partnerships into possibilities
“Finally, we are beyond excited to open lyf and The Suites. We are very happy that we did not stop constructing during the pandemic to make sure that we open today,” said TLDC COO Cathy Casares-Ko in her speech during the opening.
Ko added, “We are very proud to call Ascott our partner. Ascott coming in helped us bring distinct experiences here in Torre Lorenzo Malate. This partnership with Ascott underscores our shared commitment for quality, excellence, and world-class service. Everybody worked hard and supported the project, and we opened the property on time. In real estate, that is kinda rare.”
Additionally, Ko also cited TLDC’s recent collaboration with De La Salle College of St. Benilde (DLSU-CSB) to have young student artists design murals surrounding lyf Malate Manila. “This property is also a showcase of Torre Lorenzo’s thrust to be an active member of the communities that we do business in. In this property, we partnered with the De La Salle College of St. Benilde for their students to interpret modern Manila life. And you see the work of these students in the trendy, Instagrammable walls. We’re happy to partner with them, and you can see these partnerships in all our properties.”
“The opening of the first lyf in the Philippines and The Suites at Torre Lorenzo Malate is an example of the possibilities when we merge real estate experience with hospitality expertise, made more meaningful with the sense of community that we share with the Ascott Limited,” Ko concluded.
Making Malate more fun
“The key reason for us to be in Malate is because it is such a melting pot of culture,” explained Ascott’s Country General Manager Philip Barnes. “History, tradition, the food, the people…it’s all here. [lyf] is not about the rooms, it’s the social spaces. We want to be part of the community. We want to connect with the community. We just want to make Malate more fun.”
Following the speeches, a special raffle rewarded the guests with stays at The Suites at TLM and lyf Malate Manila, giving them a chance to be among the first to experience what is in store, capping off a successful expansion by TLDC into the hospitality industry in Metro Manila.
